RECAP: Toilet Bowl 2005
(2/14/05) It's been a while, but the Army team pulled out the victory over
the combined Navy, Marine and Air Force team by a score of 21-14. The annual
intraservice flag football game took place on the lot on the east side of
Huskie Stadium in DeKalb. This year a new toilet seat trophy was introduced,
replacing the original that dates back to the Toilet Bowl's inaugural year
of 1969. Read the full story at the
Northern Star. Following the Toilet Bowl,
faculty advisor and alum Jon Lehuta hosted a Super Bowl party at his home in
DeKalb.
HOT: Room Available to War Veteran
(1/18/05) A patriotic DeKalb family seeks to
help a military serviceperson currently attending NIU by providing a
rent-free room in their home. The qualified veteran will have participated
in either Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom . If
interested, please email Jenny Webster at info@niuveteransclub.org for more
information.
BIG EVENT: Toilet Bowl 2005 on Feb. 6
(1/9/05) This is one of the Vets Club's biggest and most historic events
of the year. Army and Air Force vets will line up against Navy and Marine
Corps vets in our annual flag football game. It's usually cold. It's often
snowy. And it's always a blast!
To the winner goes a year's worth of bragging
rights and their winning score inscribed upon the venerable toilet seat
trophy (yes, it's an actual toilet seat). And this year, the losers have to
buy the first round at the bar after the game.
Look forward to this year's battle to start
at 14:00 at the East lot next to Huskie Stadium. All participants must declare
their allegiance and are encouraged to dress appropriately. A football,
field markers, and flag sets will be provided. Feel free to bring your own
cheerleaders or medical support staff.
Following the game, everyone is invited to Husky's
Bar on Lincoln Hwy (just West of Annie Glidden) at 15:30 for the post-game
ceremony and to watch Super Bowl XXXIX. Questions? Call Jenny Webster at
(815) 758-2324.
