There are two types of regular membership in the Vets Club:
active and associate. Each has its own requirements and benefits, but share
some common requirements. Read on!
General Requirements for All Members
Membership shall be open to all students of Northern Illinois University and
to all faculty and staff of the University who identify with at least one of
the following criteria:
- Honorable service in any active duty U.S. Armed Force for at least one
year.
- Honorable past or present service in any U.S. Reserve or National
Guard force for at least two years in total. Those persons currently
serving must be in good standing in their respective service.
Active Membership
- Meet all general criteria for membership. As this is a student
organization, Active Membership is reserved to those currently affiliated
with Northern Illinois University.
- Show genuine interest in the Veterans Club -- that means submitting a
membership application to the Secretary.
- The veteran must pay Active Membership dues for the current semester
to the Treasurer within 30 days of approval of the application (new
members) or within 30 days of the start of the current semester
(continuing members).
Rights, Benefits and Powers of Active Members
- Cast one vote during each vote called by the Executive Board in
matters of club affairs during any business meeting.
- Entitled to fair and equal treatment by the Executive Board and the
membership at large regarding all affairs of the Veterans Club.
- Hold office, serve in any leadership position, or serve on any
committee.
- Entitled to an invitation to all Veterans Club activities and
functions.
- Entitled to bring formal grievance against any other member of the
Veterans Club, active or otherwise, that has allegedly committed an
injustice during an organizational activity or whenever Veterans Club
affairs are concerned.
Associate Membership
- Meet general criteria for membership.
- Show genuine interest in the Veterans Club -- that means submitting a
membership application to the Secretary.
- The veteran must pay Associate Membership dues for the current
semester to the Treasurer within 30 days of approval of the application.
Rights, Benefits and Powers of Associate Members
- Entitled to attend and participate in all activities, with the
exception of official voting, of the Veterans Club. Supplemental charges
may be required of Associate Members attending specific functions.
- Associate Members shall be entitled to bring formal grievance against
any other member of the Veterans Club, active or otherwise, that has
allegedly committed an injustice during an organizational activity or
whenever Veterans Club affairs are concerned.
